I won't say that Boston's defense last season wasn't great -- because it was -- but it hadn't been a problem for LeBron until Game 4 of that series. He dropped 42 on the Celtics during the regular season (also 30 on another occasion). He had 35, 24 and 38 in Games 1-3, respectively, and shot well.

Then in Game 4 it was a meltdown. He had 7 turnovers and shot poorly. Game 5 was even worse (15 points on 3-of-15 shooting). Game 6 was okay, but still below par (8-of-21 shooting, 9 turnovers).

He didn't shoot over 40% from the field after Game 3. Now that may have been the elbow injury. Who knows? But there was definitely a let down, and my first thought when I saw those games was that it was mental. I never saw that happen with Jordan.

Re: Jordan getting swept by the Celtics, I agree. But LeBron didn't have the necessary weapons to beat the Spurs that year or Boston last year.

I kind of look at LeBron's series last year against Boston in a similar way that I look at what the Heat did to Rose this year. Really good team defense made it tough for the star player. Boston was a better team than last year's Cavs. The only Cavalier who could have started for Boston was LeBron, and nobody else was even close. It just wasn't a fair fight.

Scottie is talking about pure abilities, you dont have to play many seasons and win many titles, when the standard is whos the best, not who's got the most titles, the argument can therefore be made that LaBron could be the all time best

Good points. Nobody expected the Cavs to get to the Finals in '07. They had no business being there except that LeBron carried that team on his back. You can make the argument that he was drained by the time he reached the Finals, and that's why he performed badly, so we can excuse him of that.

Still, what LeBron did in the playoffs last year, melting down like that against Boston for reasons we don't know yet. That was unforgivable. You can't be an all-time great and have a series like that. That was ridiculous.

Also, Jordan's sweeps came at the hands of the mid-80s Celtics. Let's face it. The Bulls were ill-equipped to handle that team. They just didn't have the components to compete with the Celtics on the interior. Not at all a fault of Jordan's.
